Thanks to all for your help :)

I am a safe, competent driver I do however suffer from an anxiety disorder that makes it difficult for me to be with people I don't know. Having never seen the examiner before in my life I'm stressing about it.

I've driven almost 400 miles (between various day trips) in my own car with my husband and kids between lessons so I'm gaining experience all the time and if I wasn't confident I certainly wouldn't drive with my kids in the car!!

I got told to eat an apple about half an hour or so before the test, I thought it was a load of rubbish first time I failed second time done the apple thing and it calmed me down and I passed, although as others have said it's about safe driving, paying attention to other road users and pedestrians, reading the road ahead knowing when to react, and being able to retain control of the car at ALL times.

Good luck I'm sure you'll be fine, I was sweating so much when I done mine's the inside corners of my specs were steaming up a wee bit just above my nose.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

And if you think you make a mistake, just forget about it and carry on.

This - I was certain I'd failed my test due to a couple of mistakes - was wrong

if a mistake is made, best not forget about it...but simply, put it behind you.....think about it later, and think what you as the individual, could have done to avoid that mistake.

The problem with the test is, it is seen as exactly that....a test.

Most people respond differently if they think their performance is being scrutinised.

    And driving is no exception.

Examiners are skilled people....not just in driving...but in recognising cases of 'test nerves'...
I have known examiners to 'hide' the clip board, in an attempt to allow the driver to 'calm down'.

Best to eat something before the test, to raise the blood-sugar levels.....

However...I think the biggest issue is simply the word 'test'!

In reality, it is an assessment.....simply a confirmation of what your instructor already thinks and knows,

that you are a competent careful driver.

All you have to do is have a little faith in yourself.....and your abilities.

    Your instructor has!
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Don't worry. When he sees you, the examiner will be stressed, too. To break the ice, take some boiled sweets and offer him one. My wife swears that she was passed because she kept "accidentally" rubbing the examiner's thigh every time she changed gear and he liked it. Worth a try, if you get into difficulties.

    :rotfl:

I think I'd have failed if I'd tried this tactic (although my examiner was female)
