Unexpectedly being given notice.... help!

Thansk for the replies folks! Had a bit of time to sit and dwell on it a bit now...
The annoying thing is we're sort of in a position to buy now, so will be looking to do this, but obviously less than two months is cutting it fine, hence the idea of prolonging the inevitable. Am most !!!!ed off though as like I say, he seemed fine with the idea of having us in for years. We've explained that we'd be looking to buy at some point, but he'd be the first to know, and we'd give him months of notice and updates, be friendly with viewings, etc. The deposit is protected and all above board, so if he issues the S21/notice to leave correctly, which he seems to have done to coincide with rental periods, etc., then it looks like we'd have to get out. Mostly I'm hoping the fact that he'd have no record of asking us to leave, other than a text, will work in our favour. He's unavailable to ask questions at this time due to a holiday. I suspect she knows someone who wants to movein though from what I've heard of his circumstances. It won't be for him to move in or sell (otherwise we'd look at buying the bloody place!). Well he can forget us being complicit on viewings anyway if that's his game.
Just on another note about the references, I think I've had about six rental properties thus far, and never once been asked for a landlord reference....? Maybe just a local thing, I dunno, but seems odd when I've read a few times on others' threads about references being important!
Anyway, thanks again!0 -
Please do not rely on the fantasy that the landlord can't furnish proof that their S21 Notice was delivered to you. Any experienced landlord would have ensured they did this.
If you don't or can't move out in the two months you have been given the landlord will have to apply to the court. This could take some time depending on how busy the courts are, so you could have three or four months to plan your onward move0 -

The advise I would mention is to simply contact you Land Lord, and ask nicely, explain your situation and if it is possible to have an extension? Just to give you some more time to get yourself sorted.
Go about it nicely, don't give them reason to to be difficult, you never know, they might be flexible.:www: Progress Report :www:
