National Trust

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. Been looking into possibly joining the national trust. I have looked at the cost joining in England (where I live) and joing National Trust Scotland. It is cheaper to join National Trust Scotland for me and apparently I can use this to gain free entry to all the trust sites in England. Has anyone done this before? Also I know I would get a National Trust Scotland badge for car parks- would that still entitle me to free car parking at the English sites?

Hope someone an help
Thanks

Last year I got National Trust Membership for £43 for a family of four. I logged on via Topcashback which offered me a cashback deal and then searched on the National Trust website for their discounted new members deal. Total bargain, we spent the summer in Scotland seeing various National Trust for Scotland places and we live in an area with plenty of National Trust properties so have continued to visit throughout the year. This year though I will cancel the National Trust membership as it will be around the £80 mark and will go through National Trust for Scotland which gives a discounted price for new members around the £60 mark.

I joined about five years ago and have used the badge three or four times.

Despite some politics, the trust does a mostly decent job of looking after the properties, so I see my membership as a charitable donation as much as a leisure buy.

I have a leaflet in front of me which I think must have fallen out of one of the weekend Telegraph papers offering 12 months National Trust membership for the price of nine if you quote code D11052. It's for new members only and the offer is valid until 31/12/11. THe phone number to call is given as 0844 800 1895.

The offer prices are quoted as £37.88 for an individual, £62.63 for joint membership, £66.38 for a two adult family and £41.63 for a single adult family.

I joined the national trust back in August and visited precisely one site,, that's the one I joined up at. We paid something like £88 for joint membership, and I'd like to get maximum value for money out of the membership in the next six months or so.

Which sites are recommended around the London area? I would probably only visit other sites if I happened to be travelling through, but tbh I usually take the train when travelling north of the M25 so visiting places off the beaten track is unlikely to be an option.
