GeorginaAlexi wrote:in all seriousness why dont you try growing a beard to a length of 1.5cm and then getting it waxed- this would weaken the hairs and make it easier to shave in the future. Us girlies have all sorts of sensitive places waxed so Im sure a blokey fella could stand the shock just once- in the name of saving money.
And then I worked it out!
IF you go for this option, Ashok, you might need a few waxes before the hairs are noticeably weakened.
But my advice would be to just grow the beard. But then I like men with beards. And teenage boys with beards are quite cute too. I'd better go before I say something I'll be in trouble for :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Haha thanks all - I don't want to grow a beard. I don't really get a whole lot of acne after shaving, just a bit which is okay.
I have other problems that I do worry about though, e.g. the dry skin at the moment, and my hair too.. I'm just about to make a post about my hair, so more advice is appreciated!!!0 -
Following me pervious posts, i always dry shave however i do have a Philishave cool skin shaver that you use wet with nivea cream or dry without cream.
The best of both worlds:D

I would not bother with dry shavers - they do not give a close enough shave IMO.
Just shower (or atleast wash your face) before starting to shave,
Use a decent shaving cream - not gillette etc - get a proper cream from Clinique and really lather it on
start shaving the thinnest hairs first - leave areas like your chin last as the hairs are thickest here
Keep running your razor under hot water
Moisturise well afterwards - again Clinique are very good esp for sensitive skin
As for choice of razor - Don't go for the 4 blade options - they do not allow precise shaving underneath your nose etc... i think Sensor excel with 2 blades is very good0 -
I disagree my philips shaver gives me a really close shave and its as good as wet shaving, ou really should try one!!!0

I used to dry shave but i prefer wet shave now - its closer and nicer. I also have to shave every day tbh (tho i get away with 2 be4 it gets ruff) - if i dont, i get like sandpaper LOL!
That said - each man is different - some guys shave once a week and get away with it - others like myself have to do it every day or 2.Never do things tomorow when you can do them today.0 -

Cleanse before shaving - it gets the hairs standing up and wakes up the skin.
Always shave in the direction of the hair growth (normally downwards). Use short gentle strokes and rinse razor after every stroke (i.e. lots). Try lots of shaving products until you find the best one (I use a brush and some menu shave cream. Can get on Boots or https://www.mankind.co.uk.
Finish with a post shave balm and then a moisturiser.
Always use a fresh blade everyweek. Consider a single blade safety type but be gentle with it - don't press hard and keep the blade at a right angle to your skin. You will bleed while you get used to it but it will be better after a short while - unbeatable and cheaper at 20 - 30p per blade.0 -
All you wet-shavers who get rashes (and those who dry-shave because you get a rash by wet-shaving) - TRY SHAVING OIL!
Seriousy, I tried lots of different types of shave (electric razor, wet-shave with different types of cream) but always got a sore face when trying to get a close shave. I have fairly heavy growth and have to go over areas to get a better shave. I discovered shaving oil and it is BRILLIANT. No rash, fewer cuts, closer shave and my blades last longer.
I use Cariad oil, available in Tescos or from ebay:

I'd second that - I used to get nicks and spots whichever way - I used to find the electric worse for some reason perhaps because it didn't have the exfoliating effect and left the hair ends more likely to ingrow.
I now use a shaving oil - doesn't really matter which although if I can find it cheap King of Shaves Kinexium is my favourite (too expensive for regular purchase!), and often shave in the shower - with an oil its easy enough to do because you do it by feel rather than sight anyway - no foam to guide visually. Being in the shower helps keep the skin and razor really wet which seems to activate the oil even more.Adventure before Dementia!0
