Apologies for taking this thread off topic, but I couldn't let binnie's post (and sig) slide.
It doesn't matter whether you apply for 60 jobs or 600 jobs. You only need one to make you an offer.
All I can say is, keep applying. I don't know you, but you're IT skills must be half decent to be on this forum, and your English and grammar is spot on. You might be 50, but that certainly doesn't mean you're past about. Think about varying your CV.. try new ways of formatting it and presenting the information. Cut some words out, add some words in. Also look at interview techniques. I'm sure Google can tell you loads about CVs and interview technique.
Good luck! You'll get there!
Well I went for an interview yesterday and it seemed to go very well. The girl who interviewed me said I didn't look almost 50 and that all they wanted was a good sales person. Well I'm certainly that. Lets hope I get the job.0 -
Good luck binnie.
rictus, just read throught your thead and wanted to say you are doing fantastic - wish I'd had my head screwed on that much when I was your age.0 -
Thanks bugslet...good luck binnie! How long you been out of work? Bugslet I do seem to have it screwed on now...obviously never used to as got myself into this mess very early on in my career! But now I'm slowly turning things around and aim to be completely debt free and have at least 10k by my 21st...giving me just shy of 13 months to do so. Then I can go crazy with the overtime etc knowing every penny is mine and I'm not breaking my back to pay interest to my bank. Things are going to be so different in just 13 short months. Just need rid of car ASAP giving an extra 240 to debts. Paying 400 a month on debts...such a waste! Plus probably hundreds more in interest.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Guess you'll be leaving us and on to the mortgage free board next;)
You might have done something daft early on, but you didn't wait another twenty years for your LBM!0 -
Yep hope so...next few months is going to be very low spend...just esstentials going out.....until my next payrise anyway. Really cannot wait for that, will allow me to pay cards off so much quicker. Every second pay is my own really just now. The pay in the middle of the month goes on loans, fuel, digs, going out, car, van everything then the one that lands 2 weeks later at the end of the month pays £40 odd phone bill and the rest is mine to overpay whatever....really keen on keeping going with the 25% net income straight to savings so even if i dont overpay debts i know im still doing well and moving in the right direction.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Well another day another dollar...£80ish into my pay from today...which means savings is increasing £20 every working day! So 1000 days and iv got £20k! 1000 days is 142 weeks if i put that away every day, not every workday. So maybe that should be my aim. Even on non work days earn at least £20. A half day saturday would cover that + the sunday aswel....
So 142 weeks is just shy of 3 years....
Sometimes i think im guilty of looking into things too much :PWork in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Hi Rictus,
To answer your question about how long I've been out of work. Well I left my job in January this year and even though I have a business on Ebay, I don't bring enough money in to pay all my debts/bills.
I do get some agency work now, but it's only mostly 2 days a week and sometimes just one.
But me and hubbie are coping, just about
I am sure we will get back on form again, and with only 4 years to go now before our mortgage is fully paid off, then we have things to look forward to.
Hope you get to your target. :beer:0 -
He works a lot of overtime (anything over 39hrs pw) which is paid at 1.5x normal wage
Actually he states that his pay BEFORE overtime is over £1300, then the overtime takes it to around £2000.:cheesy: Nationwide Overdraft: [STRIKE]Mar: -£2300[/STRIKE] Oct: 0!!!
 Nationwide CC: [STRIKE] Sep:[STRIKE]-£4500[/STRIKE] [/STRIKE] £3085
Debt 42% gone0 -
Well with a recent payrise i will have to go on the taxman site today and see how much im going to get a fortnight now. My pay is up £1.67 an hour. So more like £1600 before overtime now. Not that motivated to do much overtime as pay is going up in a month so will be doing the same work for more money....so maybe take a few easy weeks and then all out in a month.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
