Powerflush

Hi,

Could someone let me know what a powerflush can really achieve? I have a boiler which is around 4 years old, and all the pipes and radiators (and underfloor heating) has been replaced in the last six months.

British Gas came around the other day to replace some parts under their homecare agreement (which is brilliant by the way) but have told me I should think about a £700 powerflush.

I am 99% sure it's not necessary, and I had assumed it was something to do with older boilers, but thought I would ask the great mse intellect what purpose it could serve, and if £700 is as much of a rip off as it sounds!

Thanks

KMMR

Remember British Gas Engineers are on Commission for every extra service they sell and will use all kind of scare tactics to get ytou to have these services. Just a sales con im my mind, especially on a relatively new boiler.

But somebody that knows what they are on about will come along in a minute and give you the definitive answer.

Is this the same as your rental place you were inquiring about before?

Nope - but good of you to check out old posts! They recommended it there too - but seems more likely to be relevant in that case I would think.

this one is in a largish 2 bed flat.

BG served my boiler yesterday and I was amazed that the fitter did not mention power flushing. They usually do. Even if I thought that it did need a flush I would not pay BG prices.

isnt powerflush the 'extended warranty' of the boiler system world? if your system is new, it wont need one for a decade, and if its older than a decade, its not to be used due to the leaks it can force....

  • As your boiler is only 4 years old and your rads and u/floor heating is new you more than likely don't need a power flush. If the proper amount of inhibitor was used in the beginning and when you had your rads changed you are probably ok. Get the system water tested by someone qualified to do so, and have them show you the results. You should never agree to a power flush until you have been given evidence of corrosion.
