the price we are getting from a local main dealer is about £500 more. This chap says if we are content with his price, he swaps my contact details with a main dealer, then i deal with them etc under their T&CS. I dont pay him a penny for a new car, only if getting used. But if i was going for a used car, i would personally prefer to actually be able to see the car first and check history etc before purchase.

Then you need to broaden your search. A dealer has only so much margin in a car, they don't get any more from the manufacturer, if they deal with a broker. If they are prepared to offer that deal through a broker and pay them a commission on top, they will offer you the same and save themselves the commission.

Agreed - I had to go to a few different dealers to get my car at the price I wanted.

unfortunately my relative has waited too long for his car and main dealer prices have gobe up several £'00s.
I tried drivethedeal but they want a deposit paid to them direct, a bit different to the other broker relative was going to use.
But foound out that perrys.co.uk car sales have some good deals - anyone tried them? i sit best to get a new car delivered or delivery via trailer or to collect it from dealer (dealer is few hours away?)......does it make a difference?
(just thinking in case of any minor faults on receiving a new car, is it best to go to dealer car was bought from or just take the car into nearest dealer?)

I looked at a few online brokers such as DTD and Dealdriver. In the end I went to my local dealership and managed to get a close enough deal to go with them. The issue I had with DTD and Dealdriver was that I didn't know which main dealership the car would come from and if I had problems I would have to take it to another franchise. Also both online brokers could not source the car I wanted and would have had to go for a different spec or wait 4-5 months for a factory order. For the sake for a few hundred pounds I was happy to go local.

The customer service from both DTD and dealdriver was excellent however and I seriously would consider getting a car from them in the future as I did this time but unfortunately they didn't have the stock.

    Thanks.

Pick your time to negotiate the deal...

Near the end of the month dealers need to make their sales numbers up. You can get some good bargains. Do your homework first tho.

And the last month of the quarter. The danger of course being, is that if they have already reached their targets, you are not in such a good bargaining position. ;)
