If you have a prebooked appointment to go to the garage and are driving for the express purposes of attending that appointment it is within the law - I suggest you bring proof of appointment.
Otherwise, it is illegal and I believe there are hefty penalties, points + £1k + fine.
edit: sorry, hadn't noticed family visit was before the expiry. Visiting them is fine, just don't drive after Monday except to visit the garage.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -
You'll be okay driving it until it runs out so you are okay over the weekend.
You can drive directly to the garage for the prebooked MOT but are not allowed to vary your route on the way.
Its really not worth the risk of driving it without the MOT,
Have a nice weekend driving around.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The punishment for lack of mot isn't that great, it's doesn't even include points.0

There are no points for no MOT, non endorsable offence, £60 penalty usually, unless of course the car is hanging and obviously dangerous.0 -
£60 is about it, dont know where one poster is getting £thousands from...............lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

As above, pretty much a non-offence, small fine & no points0

There must be other MOT test centres near you, within a 3 mile radius near me I can think of 5 of them.0

Edgy's reply is completely bogus .
There are no penalty points for lack of an MOT and certainly no £1000s of fines.
The reason for this is simple an MOT only says that your car is/was o.k and roadworthy at the moment of the test as it lasts for 12 months nobody can use the MOT as the basis for a safe vehicle .
If you drive a car that is not roadworthy on the public highway at any time even having an M.O.T then that is an offense and can be fined , driving a car with bald tyres or dangerous suspension whilst having an MOT from 10 months ago or the week before would be no excuse.
No valid M.O.T test from Vosa = Fine = £60 and first offence for a day or so you may even get let off , it has been known
Also the rumors that insurance is void without an M.O.T is false for the same reasons , the insurance however may drop down the value of the car claim by 10% in a total loss accident or so if you dont have a valid M.O.T. and have an accident , neither the motoring industry or the police dont use an m.o.t as a statement of a roadworthy / safe car after it has left the testing station.
Not condoning driving without an M.O.T and it should be done asap of course but the scare stories from some are pointless and groundless0 -
do u have to have your previous certificate to have an mot done my sister has lost hers and has jsut realised she needs one doneWhat goes around-comes around0

very confused just read an article that says it does invalidate your insurance if u have an accidentWhat goes around-comes around0
