Cat poops on the carpet

My little tabby cat always poops on the carpet. I have another older cat (who is actually the Mum) and I worked out that she was intimidating the smaller cat and not allowing her to use the litter trays. I even had 3 at one stage but Mum cat would use them all. I have had the cats seperated conpletely for 6 weeks now, and little cat still poops on the carpet not the litter tray, and I'm getting to the end of my tether with it. Any advice anyone?

Have you tried putting the poo in the litter tray to try and encourage her to use it? Does she poo in the same place all the time? If so, you could try putting her tray in that spot.£2019 in 2019 challenge:£50/2019

Orbit did that for a while when he was a kitten,I found that spraying the area where he poo'd with a strong perfume sort of masked his scent in the spot where he'd poo'd.Have you thought about getting a Feliway diffuser? These are designed for this sort of thing..
Good luck.0 -
Have tried the masking the smell route, as well as putting the poop in the litter tray, but she just poops on another bit of the carpet! I didn't realise that Feliway could help this, I will give that a go. Thanks to both :-)0

Maybe add a fourth litter tray with a different kind of litter?0

The Feliway should also have an affect on mom too so she my calm down towards her kitten.0 -
Have tried a brand new litter tray with varying kinds of litter since seperating them, all to no avail. I have cleaned up 5 lots of horrible cat mess off my carpet today, and tbh am at my wits end with it. I will get feliway tomorrow, but I don't know what I'm going to do if that doesn't work.0

It is worth cleaning the carpet well with biological washing powder. The bio enzymes break up the smells that say "poop here". Any Washing up liquid / shampoo etc, just smells like another cat going in "my spot" and encourages remarking. If you found this post useful please will you click "thank you"? It cheers me up. :j0

Yes, try the biological laundry-detergent and see if you can find another, more private spot for the other trays. Cats need to feel secure when they're littering, so perhaps you need three trays between the two cats. I expect Mum-cat might find it too hard a job to "guard" three trays in different parts of the house.0
