on the latter question I dont know as noone will take responsibility for the meter accuracy.
[...]
However electric I really want the meter checked but feel its wrong that I should pay a huge fee for it. Also asked for advice on how to look for signs my supply may be tapped but I get met with silence.
The fee is £60 or £80 per meter. That is not a huge sum. Of course you have to front the cost - it would be madness to allow householders to demand free checks willy-nilly.
As it is an electricity meter you are more concerned about your complaint is even less valid - it is trivial to check the meter yourself.0 -

Save yourself some money. Instead of getting an accuracy check see if your local library can loan you an energy efficiency Monitor such as an Owl. This will allow you to compare the reads from your meter with what you are actually using. There can be a 3% discrepancy between the 2 but thats tiny. This will also let you know if there is anything power hungry in your house.
What amount of KWH are you using? Check your meter on 2 days at the same time and post? Also give us info from a bill based on 2 accurate reads and the type of house you have and see if we can spot anything wrong. I assume your heating is by gas.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
I think that a little less talk about energy price hikes would be beneficial to customers. Energy web sites and the media make it easier for the energy companies to hike prices having already created the expectation.
CARELESS TALK COSTS US MONEY
I agree completely with this. Look at the top of the screen underneath the MSE banner 'cutting your costs, fighting your corner'. Part of that is not to make things like hikes seem inevitable. The more this sort of talk continues the worse it makes our consumer situation.
My suggestion would be to stop talking about speculation and what might or mightn't happen, but instead report rises when they happen. That way the energy companies will get our first hand anger if they try to make a move.
This forum shouldn't be in the business of talking prices up and there was a tongue-in-cheek poll recently asking who was responsible for the rises which included Martin's name. Let's not make tongue-in-cheek turn into a contributory factor though.0 -
Al-Qaeda means "the base" in Arabic.
Yet, in an after dinner speech, George Bush called his supporters "my base". Bush is tight with the Saudi's, who are cousins with Osama, so is it possible that these people are all Al-Qaeda?
The purpose of the acts of terror is just to drive up oil and gas prices? Islamic fundamentalism is just a convenient front for recruiting suicide bombers?
What "the base" of oil men using brainwashed suicide bombers have done is beyond anti-competitive behaviour.
So, we should form an independent International League against Anti-consumer Activities. We need to create our own enforcement units, with the power to arrest George Bush, oil executives and Saudi princes. It's basically a Super Monopolies and Mergers commission with A10 tank busters.
Hopefully, once we have lynched the Al Qaeda oil men,
and confiscated their worldly goods, we'll get back to $30 a barrel.0 -

Is this a new take on Godwin's Law?
Edit: Looks like I may be behind the times again. This from last September:
Bin Laden may soon rival Hitler as internet forum base-standard unit of badness
Hitler’s long rule as first-choice base unit for evil on internet forums is being challenged by a new entrant to the market. According to new research, Osama bin Laden overtook Genghis Khan at the start of the year and has now gone sailing past Stalin to cement himself as the second choice for comparing badness in online discussions. Some experts say he may even surpass Hitler.
The al-Qaida supremo’s popularity is thought to have been boosted by British GCSE and A-Level students, who for years have struggled to understand why someone who ‘might have captained the German football team’ or ‘maybe invented BMWs’ is considered to be so evil.
However, the news has sparked furious debate on chat rooms around the world, with many people angry that the fascist dictator’s name may no longer be the ultimate way to ‘win’ a virtual argument. ‘It’s a disgrace,’ said one keen chat-roomer. ‘These people are just jumped up little Blairs’."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Oh my God, the Americans, i.e. instruments of the oil lobby, killed Osama to stop him blabbing about driving up the price of oil through international instability.
Since I exposed their plot, they will come get me soon. Nowhere to hide. If you don't hear from me again, you know what happened.0 -
Avoid 81% tax rate by shutting down your own gas fields and then buying gas on the wholesale market.

Those profits made from the gas used by consumers is then subject to much lower taxes. So closing down the gas fields will result in higher gas bills for you and me!0 -

It was bound to be the Americans, us Brits would know better than to take the bins out on a bank holiday!

Donald Trump is demanding to see OBL's death certificate, and James Cameron is going to send down a mini submarine to start filming 'Raise the Bin Laden'
