Contract Hire Early termination

I have a contract hire car from arnold clark and I am 18 months into a 36 month contract, I went into enquire if I could hand it back and they did not think that would be a problem and made it sound like it I would be only able to this if I got another agreement with them. Since then I have spoken to someone who has advised that I can hand the car back if over half way through the contract whithout paying an early termination fee. Is this true? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I suspect the advice you have been given is for a finance agreement of some sort.

I would take some good legal advice as Contract Hire is a bit different and may carry steep fees for premature termination.

The best advice is check what you signed, as nobody here has access to that apart from you.

The full terms and conditions will be in there, however the dealer will be able to pull all kinds of strings if you are changing cars rather than just ending your agreement.

If you have a Personal Contract Hire agreement with Arnold Clark you either pay 6 months rental or 40% of the outstanding rental, whichever is less. PLUS you will also be repsonsible for any extra mileage you have built up.

I've had several cars through AC on PCH and this is always the case.

If you have the deal on finance then I believe once you've paid half of the outstanding finance then you can return it, however, this is half of the monies due to them not the time. You really should check out your finance documents, and if you don't have them contact Arnold Clark or the finance company and ask for a new copy.

The person I know at AC Finance is really really helpful, but if the money is due they'll charge you.

PS don't listen to the dealers and salespeople if it's PCH(personal contract hire) then you should only listen to the people at Arnold Clark Finance who are based at the Lexus dealearship at St George's Cross in Glasgow, can even give you the phone number if you want.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
