Wood preserve which brush type

I have bought some garden furniture and have never coated any before. Is there a particular type of brush I should use. Soft are hard and are the brushes rated to explaing the softness etc.

if you using timber preserve you want a plastic bristle as the preserve will just rot the brush.0
