I am in the planning stages of getting a single story extension to the side of our 3 bedroom semi detached house (in Essex). Part of the extension will be a small(ish) office/home cinema room (subject to final planning permission from the Mrs ).

Prior to getting our builder to give a quote, I have spent a considerable amount of time researching online and on these boards about the general cost of making this room soundproofed so my wife and young kids don't hear the sound of the computer or more importantly the high-spec home cinema system I will be putting in there (also subject to Mrs approval!).

Can anyone give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to make it soundproofed? It will be a brand new room so I'm assuming that makes things easier and the cost of the actual room has been quoted but was wondering how much extra it would cost prior to the build to get it upgraded to a soundproofed room an what the process is! The size of the room will be approx. 2m x 3.5m (rough figures, I'm useless at estimating sizes )

depends how far you want to go with it.
you can whats call parge coat the wall prior to any plasterboarding using 15 sound block plaster board x2 layers
as its only a small area i wouldnt go down the route of using sound quilt on the walls prior to stud as it takes up depth.
ether way get someone in or a plasterer that knows what they are doing,if there any tiny voids in it, it will make the exercise pointless.
