dropped iron on carpet

Help!! Iron fell off ironing board last night in the lounge. I quickly picked it up but left line? carpet only 6 months old. Its noticeable, but not overly so, just wondering if any tips for making it less noticeable. I wondered if I trimmed off the bit thats obviously burnt or would I make it worse?

  • I'd definitely give it a little shave and see if you can remove the scorched surface. Failing that perhaps a section of the carpet could be cut out and patched?

Firstly be thankfull you avoided the natural reaction (and god knows why we do this) to "kick" the object we'd just dropped back into our hand! (or is it just me who makes a faff & knees/kicks at everything i've dropped?) and well, the obvious answer here is one of two things, either re-arrange the furniture or buy a rug.

Hey , I dont know how many times Ive done this !!! and how many carpets Ive ruined , So I am now the most carefulest of ironers lol

But what I did was I followed a tip I saw on TV for when you move furniture and it leaves a mark on the carpet like an indent mark (kinda like the iron) what they said to do withh those indents were use ice cubes on them to releaase the strands and they all rise up and looks good as new so I thought I would try it with iron mark and it did the trick, It doesnt look as good with the iron mark but definettly a noticeable difference, Just put a few ice cubes all over it and let them dissolve.

    Hope this helps :o)

I'd stick a fine tooth comb through it to try to lift the pile up a bit and trim "into" it rather than across the burn to try to break up the line, which would make it less noticeable - the eye notices straight lines quicker than wavy lines.

Just don't do what the previous tennant had done at the last flat I rented; cut out a square from the corner of the room, cut out the iron mark and swapped the two!!! That was a lovely feature to my living room!!!

you can get a cheap disposable razor (with just the one blade preferably) and as another poster has said, take a comb and lift the tufts of the carpet and shave carefully from the open end of the comb to the thick bit! I too have dropped irons, curling tongs and lit ciggies and believe me if you do this properly you wont even notice any marks! you can use a new craft knife too- but be extra careful with these!

My lounge is filled with iron marks - the LL told me the previous tennant was apparently slightly crazy! There is a total of 5 on my lounge floor  Thankfully its noted in the tenancy agreement though so they cant try and charge me for it ;)
