I usually use Wilkos decking oil (pine) two coats but finish only lasts a year, does anyone recommend a finish (stain) that can last longer? I want a finish which isnt very dark but not clear pine or alight colour (not green). Thanks
Decking doesn't get a lot of traffic, I do have a bench on it to sit on.

2.5ltr tins. says you need to inspect every year which suggests a recoat will be needed thenAs is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.0

It needs doing every year whatever you put on it.
I use Liberon Teak deck oil on our deck (60m2) after a pressure wash every year.0 -
Hi there
My recommendation would be Conservit's Decking products.
They aren't available on the high street yet but you can buy them online at http://www.conservit.co.uk/garden/
They have a wood restorer which lifts out all the greying and returns the wood to its natural colour, then their Wood Protection goes on top after the wood has dried. It doesn't stain the wood (though you can order different versions with stains incorporated) but it does put a protective layer which stops the oxidisation that turns the wood grey and also stops staining.
Also, because moisture doesn't penetrate the wood, it dries quicker which means that algae doesn't start to build up - which really makes your decking slippy in the winter.
The Wood Protection lasts for at least two years - and if it's not a deck that gets walked on much it might last longer.
I used it on my deck last month and it was easy to use and the difference was amazing - both in terms of the Wood Restorer bringing the colour back and the Wood Protection keeping it that way.0 -
Generally they require doing each year - and dont be tempted to use fence paint e.g. ducksback because its cheaper - as many of my clients have done in the past its simply not made to be walked on! and the stain wont cover bare patches left where its peeled!!0

better off not putting anything on decking apart from timber preserve, then you get no patchs, no peeling, no worn patches.0
