Hi everyone,
A Pal of mine intend to go and study in Finland. I heared it is free to study in Finland irrespective of one's nationality. Is that true?
How about cost of living in Finland?
Thanks.

Not sure about the question, but there is a caveat: graduate jobs and postgraduate degrees in the UK require a degree from a 'recognised UK institution.'0 -
postgraduate degrees do not require undergrad degrees from the UK! sorry but that's completely incorrect. people study masters and phds with first degrees from anywhere in the world.... some funding can be limited to British or EU students, but most of it isn't. there are also plenty of people working in the UK who got degrees abroad.
i don't know about Finnish fees, but i bet the uni websites have the info.:happyhear0 -

My question has nothing to do with UK.0 -
I Googled "study costs Finland". There seems to be a lot of information available.

Not true, it's at the University's discretion to whether they accept a degree from outside the UK.0 -

It is up to the university to decide which candidates to accept (as with jobs, employers select the person they want to work for them). The point is, degrees from many universities outside the UK are regarded as representing at least the same achievement as those from their British counterparts.
(An additional point is that EU directives on labour mobility oblige some organisations within EU countries to recognise qualifications from other EU countries.)
As always, the problem with studying in a country where a university education is free is that UK student loans are not available for study outside the UK, and even if there are no tuition fees there are still living costs to be met.0 -
Regardless of whether or not it is free I would think that you would need more than a passing acquaintance with the Finnish language to get anywhere in the Finnish education systemThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. it's at the university's discretion to accept ANY student with ANY set of qualifications. *sigh*GothicStirling wrote: »Not true, it's at the University's discretion to whether they accept a degree from outside the UK.
(do you actually know how many masters and phd students are overseas students? if you did, you wouldn't be making these plainly untrue statements):happyhear0 -
Do you speak Finnish? If not that would be the first major hurdle. The second is the living costs and how to meet those (quite considerable) costs, since UK student loans won't be available to you. There is a hell of a lot more to consider when going abroad than just free tuition!0
