Fenland Coatings - Any experiences from anyone?

I received a leaflet from a leaflet drop man for Fenland Coatings who specialise in weatherproofing and protecting your rendered house. Perhaps foolishly I gave him my details for a no obligation quote (as we do have the sort of house that needs this kind of treatment) and the next day I received a phonecall to make the appointment.
The salesman is coming on Saturday morning and I now have alarm bells ringing in my head that a salesman will come and never leave and am wondering if I should just go with my gut feeling and cancel.
Has anyone got any information on them and/or any experiences, good or bad? There is very little on the web other than a link to a man who was part of the previous company......
Thanks for reading.

why do you have a house that needs this protection?

if its a sand cement render or a pebble dashed house it will last a good 25 30 years if its been done right then you can silicone spray it ,is it unpainted ?
all systems like this are a type of acrliyic paint system, thats not much different to normal masonary paint.
its all a con.dont be mugged off.

i speak from experience having seen projects done by other companies of this ilk, charging old dear fortunes.i could have re rendered houses using a through coloured system for less.

You always have to be careful but at the same time don’t go over the top like a few of the comments here. Do some research!

I have to say I was a little sceptical about Fenland Coatings but our house did need this sort of work and like many had leaflet dropped through the door.

Research shows Fenland Coatings was formed in 06/01/2012 companies house Number 07899692 to an address in Peterborough. Company Director Chris Neil Gibbs and Secretary as Mrs L A Gibbs. As far as I can tell this Mr Gibbs (make sure you get the right one as there are a few) is not the director of any other company. It looks like Mrs Gibbs was a director of Gibbs Development in Somerset but resigned in 2011. Gibbs Development was incorporated in 2006 and says is active. Searching on these names gives little else.

As for the work Fenland Coatings did for us we were very pleased with their work. They were professional, punctual, keep us informed of the work, clean tidy and did a very nice job. Until you hear otherwise then if you need this sort of work they seem fine.
  • I have no idea who this company is; BUT from experience

Pay 15-£20 per sq mtr max. Ask them the square meter size they have calculated and work it out yourself.
If he says he does not give out this info..... say goodbye.

There is nothing wrong with these coatings, if walls are cleaned and coated properly. (Better than Sandtex type paints by far), normally sprayed on with an airless sprayer.

If they start the insulation/NASA/nano technology game, explain that the system is designed to reflect radiated heat back from the sunlight into the air, NOT to reflect heat back into the house. 0.000000001% maybe. It has been made illegal to sell these coatings as insulators rather than reflection coatings,

NB: 15ltrs of ISO Nordic is about £120, do some research. If they state it is their own product, patented, exclusive. Kick him out.... it isn't.

Starting prices for many £50-60 per mtr minus SHOW HOME discount. (ALL homes should be and are offered this 'incentive')
    Down to £40per mtr

Managers Call. At some point your man is supposed to call his manager to get a commitment from you for very special 'sign now' discounts £35 a mtr.

Manager may ask to speak to you.... he will try and convince you that this one off price is for today only..... smile.

Now offer them £12 per mtr, but willing to do it at £15 at a push.

Insurance backed warranty is only as good as the insurer, if its not a LLoyds backed company, its as bad as nothing.

NO deposit (thats the salesmans commission) , if pushed offer to pay 1/3rd once prepared, balance on completion.

Pay by credit card if you can. Or Cheque if not. Pay cash at your peril (no chain).

Other than that ................... no comment :rotfl:

PS: Their own warranty is only worth the amount of time they will be around.

i have to disagree, my neighbour had his house done by one of these companies about 7 years ago . today the paint is peeling off and the rest of it looks dreadful , very dirty .
no doubt it cost him £1000's . needless to say , he tried to cliam on the warranty only to find....... the company no longer exists ,

you can take it that the job will cost significantly more than a traditional paint job and won't last any longer. also the warranty will probably be as good as a chocolate tea pot .

the fact that the company was only formed this year speaks volumes ....... go for a local painter you can trust

If they were not formed until 2012 how did the OP know about them and get leaflet dropped in April 2011 when they started this thread?
