ASSERTION 1:
Kill the Beeb to reduce the deficit
ONLY IF YOU THEN TAX PEOPLE THE AMOUNT THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY ON THE LICENCE FEE!
That'll go down well. Not.
ASSERTION 2:
The free market can offer a service as good as the Beeb
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT MR RUPERT MURDOCH WOULD LIKE YOU TO BELIEVE!
Rupert Murdoch hates and fears the BBC. Governments - red, blue, yellow or in-between - all hate the BBC. Even the opposition hates the BBC.
Listen, I don't love the BBC. But in the corrupt world of media I'd rather they exist than to not exist and let moguls like Murdoch et al rule unchallenged.
The licence fee is a pain but it is (a) optional and (b) quite good value considering what you get.
No-one forces you to get a TV, do they?
TV Licensing, on the other hand... are utter THUGS!Long live the faces of t'wunty.0 -
It's not just TV though is it? I though it was anything that could show TV, so that would now cover PC's (or is that a myth?). Even my brick mobile had DAB TV (before it was cut and is now useless) I'm sure that would warrant a TV licence too. But as the BBC are branching to different media, it'll be hard to avoid it unless the only thing in your house is a radio. Coming to think about it, do caravans on the coast need a TV licence?0

But it would mean the end of the greatest TV channel to ever exist. DAVE!Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

The BBC is crap - last saturday night they had some rubbish on about Blue and their quest for Eurovision glory0

The BBC is not crap. Try BBC4 if the other channels are not to your taste. And then there is the BBC News website, plus the radio stations and so on.0

there is only one thing more annoying that the licence fee and that's people moaning about it.0
-

Some people just love to complain!Long live the faces of t'wunty.0 -
unlike b blank who makes cameron look like trotsky.
yes bring it on. scrap the bbc and every other bit of public service / sector in this country. remove collective bargaining power and any sort of employment rights. stop all benefits. hand all power to capital.
that's the quickest most surefire way to guarantee a revolution and have the likes of b blank up against the wall.
If you think the great unwashed care enough about the BBC to have a revolution about it, you're thinking like some defensive media darling. Oh . . wait a minute . . .
Those revolutionaries already have Sky - I strongly suspect hardly anyone would give a damn and would welcome it, in fact.
Personally, i like the BBC but dont think it is value for money anymore.
We should let the market dictate the license fee. The license fee should be related somehow to the marketshare the BBC channels get, compared to the other options available.0
