Bank Holiday and credit card payment

Hi I am wondering if any of you will be able to answer my question.

I have just gone to pay my credit card bills on line and completely forgot about the Bank Holidays. If payment leaves my account tomorrow and it said to allow four working days for payment to reach the credit card does that mean because of the Bank Holidays it will be late? It is supposed to be paid by the 26th April.

I am starting to really panic as we are in the process of selling our house and buying another and that it will affect our mortgage offer?

Any advice would be very welcome even if it is to say how stupid I am! I really can't believe that I have done this.

Thanks

Who's the card with, and who's your bank (assuming you're paying by online banking and not by debit card)?

If you're prone to forgetfulness you may find direct debit a help.
  • The card is with Halifax and I have paid on line from my Lloyds TSB account.

I'm not prone to forgetfulness it was a genuine oversight and the first time that i have ever done this.

Just thinking about this a little further...I'm fairly certain Halifax report account status as at statement date. If your payment is due next Tuesday, even if it goes by BACS* it'll still hit the account a few days before your next statement date.

I think you may be lucky with this and they'll not report a 'payments are not up to date' marker.

    * I don't think Halifax cards accept FPs? Maybe someone else knows for certain?

Hello Humblebumble, usually when a bank says it takes four days for payments to reach your account, it's four working days so your payment may not reach in time for the 26th. However, I think Halifax accept faster payments. If so you may be lucky. Give Halifax a call to find out. Good luck

I wouldn't have thought so - it takes a while for these sorts of things to appear on your CRA reports - on the order of a month or so after the late payment. (If it turns up at all.)
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
  • I spoke to an adviser last night and they said that if i went into the branch and paid cash today then that would be alright and that because it is cleared funds I would have settled the account today.

So no late payment and a very valuable lesson learnt!!!!
