Hey,
My car insurance is due to renewal soon (£700!) But my credit card is limited to £500. Is it possible to add £200 to a credit card and then buy the insurance? I have the 0% for the first 6 months offer and I want take advantage of that before it's too late.
Thanks!
Oh, PS: It's a Barclay Card Classic? I think.

Almost certainly it will be in the T+Cs that you should not put it into credit - this is mainly because of regulatory requirements.
You might get away with it - or the money might be put into a suspense account and returned later.
Is there anyway you could part pay the insurance by cash (or another card)?0 -

Nope, that's the bad thing. If I decided to pay for the insurance monthly, it'll be £1,150!0 -

In my experience, "overpaying" onto a credit card generally works, but it is indeed (usually) a breach of the terms and conditions.
Can you ask Barclaycard for a credit limit increase, without jeopardising the 0% offer?0 -

Err. Could be? But I'll have to phone up and ask if they'll take £200 from my debit and £500 from my credit card. Sounds like a no-no but worth asking.0 -
You could always do it and say you though you had a payment due or some other excuse and they wont take too much notice.0

Any company keen to take your money should have no problem with two forms of payment.0

Nope. I even spoke to the floor manager, told me no with a middle finger. Anyways, I called up Barclay's, they said that I am allowed to "top-up" the credit card and use it that way. I may not renew with them. I'm going shopping. If they don't want my money, then good riddance to them.0
