i swaped from eon to scottish p.
i wont bore you with te details but on there final bill they estimated my gas at 8248 units (meater reading) on 20/02/11 which was the cut of point , i was away at the time they sent me email asking for a reading so they had to estimate.anyway on my final bill it was pobably £100-£140 more than i exspected so done some investigation. my current reading is 8219 (20/04/11) so they basically estimated way over as my meter as not yet met there final estimation & its been 62 days since i left them..anyway i hope you get the drift..what a bunch of bankers.
in an ideal world make sure if u switch any provider, allways give them a reading & dont let them estimate

Agreed process when a supply leaves a company is that the new supplier, in this case Scottish power, provide former supplier, in this case Eon, with the readings to close billing. Eon have not generated this estimate, Scottish power have, as you yourself have stated already that on the day supply started with Scottish Power you were not available to provide opening meter reads, this can be resolved by raising an ARD (agreed read dispute) can do this based on opening reads wrong with Scottish Power, or call Eon and raise it based on closed reads, you will need to give them todays actual reads, and with last actual read they will do a more finely honed estimate of where read should have bene on day supply changed. Must stress this is down to no opening meter read given to Scottish Power, not Eon trying to scam you

    Hi deano72,

Airmike23 has pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.

When you change supplier the customer gives the new supplier a meter reading to start the account from, the new supplier then gives this via third party companies to the old supplier who use this to produce the final bill to.

In your case you weren’t able to give your new supplier an accurate reading, as you were away, so they have used an estimate and passed this to E.ON.

As this is above the actual reading, you can raise an agreed reads dispute (ARD) and both companies will re-agree the meter reading and the account can be re-billed.

It's normally sorted easily and you will just have to provide a couple of up to date accurate readings.

Hope this explains things a bit more.

    Helena :)

Are the new Supplier unit rates higher or lower? If they are higher, then you might want to stay stum.

Always best to do a bit of research before a knee jerk reaction smacks you in the face.:D
