Which income tax office?

I live in Scotland and for most of my working life I dealt with the income tax office in East Kilbride.

I then worked for Asda for 5 years until I decided to retire early.

When working for Asda all my income tax was dealt with by an English tax office.

I need to write to the the income tax office, should I write to the one in England or to the East Kilbride income tax office?

I would suggest your own local tax office, they will have all your details.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.
  • You need to write to the tax office that dealt with your latest employment - unless you are on a pension, in which case you write to the tax office dealing with your pension.

I have 2 private pensions each of which deals with a different tax office according to the bumph I get from them

That is a choice of four tax offices then.

    So which one?
  • If you pay tax on your pensions, then it will be the tax office that issues your tax code. But if you are not sure, then it wouldn't do any harm to send a copy of the letter to both tax offices, explaining that you are not sure which office is your main tax office, and asking them to sort it out. You could always ring them and ask?
  • They are all linked now anyway and can veiw other districts records (It was the merging of the regional databases that unearthed all thoses thousands of under and over payments) So just write to the one who deals with your main Pension.
