Would you get the Electrics checked on a purchase?

at present the trip switch is 30amp mcb, but the cable (2.5mm) is too small so couldnt cope and would overheat
but if i put in the regulation 20amp mcb, the mcb's would trip!
shocking!
Normally you would have the sockets on a ring main which would effectively give you 2 2.5mm cables to the sockets and allow you to use a 32A breaker. However you mention radial so it looks like this isn't the case. If you are using an electric oven and hob I would have expected a separate circuit for those.
That consumer unit looks a bit like an old one that has been adapted for MCB's.
