Morning Ivan,
I will put it in the compost, but It's just the onnoyance of having to sort through it all to remove the shreded paper. Why didn't they warn us before the collection so that we could start afresh for the April collection.
Anyway thats life and you just gotta get on with it. It just amazes me how some people by just having a little forethought could make everything they do go a lot easier. Instead they just seem to create havoc out of a very minor change.
How many people do you think will actually take the time to sort through their bins to remove the shreded paper?Plenty of mistakes, but no regrets.0 -
I haven't had anything through yet about the change. Does the change to collection of shredded paper happen on April 1st?
If so I will be fine as I have a collection on March 31st.0 -
leaflet states that this change will be phased in and that this information is specific to route 3 only.
It does quote 1 April 2005 though.Plenty of mistakes, but no regrets.0 -
We finally got our recycling bin yesterday - yay! No information on what we can or can't put in it, or when it will be collected, but hey, it's a start.
Maybe someone from Lisburn Council reads MSE. ;-)0 -
Quick update to my previous posts on this one. Lisburn council have now issued new guidance on the 'green bins'. Basically, I can now use it to recycle most things. All those on the previously banned list can now go in, along with plastic bottles etc. BIG turnaround by the council, and can only be good for the recycling figures.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

Bangor council introduced a new schedule this week.
we now work alternate weeks for blue bin and grey bin. A few people seemed to get caught out. It sound like a good idea, it makes you try harder to seperate your rubish according to which bin it is suitable for. The problem is that there are two weeks in the year when there is no collection. The first will be in July and the second will be at Christmas. On both occasions we will miss a grey bin collection, but instead of then having the grey bin collected the following week. The schedule is maintained so that the blue bin will be collected.
In short this means that twice a year the smelly grey bin will be unemptied for 4 weeks. I could live with the blue bin for 4 weeks because it is clean waste, but the grey bin will be truly rotten. Why don't they simply switch the rota when there is a break?Plenty of mistakes, but no regrets.0 -
Did you notice how many people had the wrong bin out? Round our way there were quite a few. Given the changes in what can be recycled we can easily survive on the grey bin, it is the blue one that I have to keep jumping up and down on (although to be fair we have been doing a lot of clearing out lately).
Maybe it will be different when the grass starts growing much more quickly again! Maybe by then we will also have received our brown bins! Alternatively I might just have to take my rubbish up to this new multi-million pound space age dump that they are planning
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
We are under this new regime as well.... it actually is a problem.
I have mentioned elsewhere our own personal issue and it boils down to the fact that we have a large household of adults with the additional problem that we do alot of shopping online.
What we are to do with the online packaging, well i dont know! We cant put it in for recycling because it is very frequently corrugated or is jiffy bags with paper and plastic bonded together. In some ways, we could be considered to save the environment by not driving into town, but then are caught out later.
In the end of the day, if it becomes difficult for people to have enough space in the bins, one thing will happen.... recycling will be forgotten. If I have to spend time running to the local dump with rubbish the council wont pick up, then I may not have that time to spend recycling. And contrary to what some people say, it is not necessarily trivial. We have perhaps 5 bins through our house, in order for everyone to recycle, we would need everyone to have 2 bins else we would need to have someone pick through each bin as it was about to be emptied into the main wheely bin.... If you have one bin in your whole house, yes, it is simple. But that just isnt always the case.2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
