Boiler Cover - the MSE way?

We have now been offered boiler cover from
- our mortgage company
- our gas company
- our home insurance company
and even our bank.

What do people do in terms of their boiler cover. What do you get? Who do you get it with and what do you pay?

What is the MSE way?

MSE way not to bother and self insure ie put away £10 a month to cover it, like you don't need cover for your drains, or your TV or Car or DVD player or phone or fridge or washing machine or freezer or computer or laptop or curtins or the paint on your walls or the sun in the sky.

Agree with MX5huggy - we've never had boiler cover. Question is, can you afford to replace your boiler if the worst happens? If yes, why waste money on insurance?

I'm irritated every month by the direct debit for my husband's stupid iPhone insurance that we've been paying out for the last 18 months. We can easily afford to replace the phone if anything happens. Same goes for our car which would only cost about £1,300 to replace like-for-like. If motor insurance only covered our own car (not the third party liability side) I wouldn't bother with that either. (OK, except for the fact it's legally required).

Only worthwhile insurance as far as I'm concerned is home insurance. There aren't many people with the cash lying around to rebuild their house and replace their contents.

as above. the only insurance i have, apart from any legal requirement, ie the car, is the house cover.
for all appliances i self insure. so far ive never made a claim within any "warranty period".

It's like all forms of insurance, depends how risk averse you are.

If you've a fairly new boiler probably not worth paying for cover, different story if it's getting on a bit.

Our boiler is about 12 years old. I get it serviced once a year by a local tradesman and it costs about £50.

It's only broken down twice. I can't remember what happened the first time but it was something cheap that needed replacing and the second time it was a diaphragm that split which was also cheap to replace.

Certainly saved money by not having boiler cover and keeping some cash savings to cover the boiler or any other appliance breaking down.
Here I go again on my own....

    Self insure.
