(Oops. Forgot to include the suppliers and their shareholders. But they are but innocent incidentals falsely, falsely besmirched by association with the above options.)0

The succesful campaign againstNuclear power over the last 50 years has certainly made prices higher than otherwise (and increased massively co2 emissions for those who think that's important).
Other elements are obviously the increase in raw energy prices, increasing costs for the industry (fuel and admin) and the rising level of subsidy loaded onto our bills is rising to a significant level, and will contiue to rise to a high level, with some predicting subsidy costs being 50% of increased bills in several years time. Most of that subsidy goes to generation which does not guarantee (or almost guaratee) to produce power at the peak period of the year, so it all has to be duplicated with generation which does - meaning we have to pay twice. And these are big numbers, all, one way or the other, loaded onto our bills.0 -
I blame the selfish little creatures millions of years ago. How dare they not breed and die enough for us to have more gas!I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0

Thank you, Eurmalian. No thank you, Graham. Please do not hijack this poll and thread with serious and considered thoughts.0

Ah, Ok, sorry I'll try again.
It's them there electric companies profiteering at my expense taking illegal direct debits which they keep increasing for no reason without asking me, spinning my faulty meter twice as fast and wanting £50 to change it, and not even leting me off the £2000 they falsely claim I've run up which is impossible because i heat with low cost heaters with ceramic cores to only 25 degrees, or 27 when it's chilly.0 -
That's more like it. (I really should avoid the internet when Waitrose have a special offer on their 8% perry. It's barely past lunch time.)0

Tis indeed those greedy, immoral & unscrupulous energy companies alone (though I'm not joking!)0

It is mainly the manufacturers of TVs and other appliances who have a standby consumption of 1,000,000(yes 1 million!) microwatts0

I thought everyone knew it was the Ukrainians.
They turned up in Cyprus where they got served watered down vodka,
and thought what a great idea. So they issue baloons which citizens fart into. These are then collected by the recycle trucks.
They mix it into the Russian gas supply like drug dealers using talcum power. They use the gas they replaced, but we end up with gas that has lower calorific value per cubic foot, so we have to use more volume of gas to get the same heating effect, so we pay more.
I have some Costco perry left, just not the same as proper cider.0 -
It's those moron physicists that had to go and ruin the fun. Back in my day we had none of this electricity business.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0
