How to you decide what type/style of wedding you want?

If you want the family there, could you maybe have it between the two 'bases', or in a totally random location? That's what my sister did - when she and my now brother in law got married they were living in Rugby, our family was in the North West and his were in Kent, so they decided to have the wedding in Cornwall (we had a lot of family holidays there when we were younger). Yes everyone had to travel, but they're your family; if they want to share your wedding day with you then they'll come with you.
On the other hand, if you just want to be married, I'd do what my auntie and uncle did - go to the registry office in normal street clothes and with the first two available friends as witnesses, and then that's it.
