Average Gas & Elec bill for 4bd House ?
Crazy question i know, but i am just curious as to what people say the average bills are ?
Say for example, 4 bedroom house, 3story, 2 adults, 2 kids.....
New build house, gas heating & hot water, and gas hobs.....
Elec for everything else.......
Given house is empty most of the day, and say heating is used at a minimum, lights not on throughout whole house when everyone is in same room, etc etc....
In my head, i would say elec £££ usage would equate to around £38 per month, and gas around £35pm.
I am just way out, or does the cost of elec/gas just cost way way more than it did in say 2005......
Cheers

I would guess (though it's purely a guess as every house is different do to things like insulation, efficiency of appliances, what you define as 'minimum' for heating etc.) that your electric estimate is a bit low, but probably not by massive ammounts. The gas one on the other hand sounds miles under to me. I'd really expect you to use something like twice that, quite possibly more.
You may have the reason there as well. I think that the cost of gas has come fairly close to doubling since 2005 and electric's gone up a good ammount too, so your estimates are going to be a bit out if they're based on thatI am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
Yes, you are way out - but different bits of string have different tolerances.
Monitor your meters daily and weekly for a while (and when you have a heating session) to get an idea of what your home and household uses.0 -
4 bed modern detached - well insulated, efficient bulbs etc, newish combi boiler - 2 adults,3 kids - not extravagant with heating etc but not ridiculously fuel conscious - pay eon £115 for dual fuel0

We pay £160 dual fuel DD on BG Websaver 6, but we don't like being cold and it's a shared house with 3 adults so someone is usually home at some point 24/7
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
I have a newbuild (March 2010) 3 storey, only 2 adults here, and I pay £38 a month DD for gas and electricity combined.
I never do understand how people in similar circumstances to me come on here and say they pay more than double that...0 -
I live on my own, 3 bed detached new build and it's £28 for gas, £26 for elec per month. Oh, and I'm £100+ in credit for gas too (review due next month). I do turn things off, but i'm not anal about it. Oh, and I do like it warm..!0
