Kitchen Cupboard Handles

Options
In my thread on our kitchen spruce-up, someone commented that they would have replaced the cupboard handles. The idea has been niggling!

Can anyone recommend a supplier?

I had a look on B&Q's website and they charge £10-20 per handle which seems excessive based on online prices. However, I would prefer to feel the item first to get an idea of quality. Are there any DIY sheds/shops that are cheaper but carry stock I can look at?

I'm looking at something like the Fingertip ones, e.g.:

Does anyone have any experience?

  • Screwfix, Toolstation or Ironmongery direct, but unless they have a trade counter near you, you won't be able to 'feel' them.
Fleabay should throw up some cheap examples, but again you can't check them out before you buy..
  • If you know anyone with a STAX card then have a look there, they stock loads of stuff like that, trade prices and you can see what you are buying..

Thanks Plumberman. Does anyone have any good/bad stories about handles they've bought unseen?

Last thing I want to do is replace our handles with cr*ppier ones. :D

Don't do what I did .... I had a pair of handles to replace in the utility. Took the measurement between the two holes and went down the shop. Found a set of handles where the fixings were the correct distance apart as per my measurements.... then spotted some lovely handles and grabbed them without checking.... so when I got home they didn't line up.

So, I screwed one into the top hole, then realised my error..... never did do the 2nd one and left the first one dangling there. Lost the will.....

    Hi,

    I bought mine from here:

Thanks both. PN - I've already thought of that one. I need to measure the gap between the screws (some of those on the site I linked to come in a variety of sizes) and also the depth (projection). We have two drawers that are in a corner, at right angles to one another. If the handles are too deep the drawers won't open!

I got some from Ebay, bought a couple of spares on a hunch - turned out one of the handles simply wouldn't lie flat but the rest of them were fine, they were the long bow style (380mm) and cost about £2 each.

Depending on what handles you have now it might be worth checking if there's been any discolouration to the door (if it looks newer under the handle) that might limit your choices.
