Wooden internal doors - how to spruce up?

Hi,

I have wooden internal doors which the ex ho covered with a varnish many years ago from I**a which was basically a tinted varnish. He never sanded them down either before varnishing!

The doors are now looking really tatty, what can I do to make them look better, I am def not glossing them.

Do I need to try and remove the existing varnish and can I do whatever I need to do whilst they are still hanging please. I can't take the doors off as on my own.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Sand the doors down as best as you can then repaint. You can either sand the varnish off, in which case you should prime the door for painting or you can sand it enough to rough it up so the paint has something to grip on to.

    Hi bobhawke,

Thanks very much for that, will make a start. I think I have one of the small hand sanders somewhere so will see how I get on with that.

    Get them dipped and stripped.
