Best swimming aid for 2 year olds?

Arm bands?

If so, which brand?

I haven't got a clue and can't think back to when the older 2 were that age.

We're going away in August where there's a massive pool with slides etc, so need to make sure the little man is safe.

We had a swim seat for him last year but I think his chunky little legs will be too big for that now.

My 2 1/2 yr old just uses arm bands. We tried an inflatable vest for him but he's quite narrow and so it just slipped up and meant he ended up face down in the water !

Swimming instructors tell you that armbands restrict movement, so float suits are better, or those polystyrene rings that you add to or take away depending on their ability.

    Thanks for the replies!

I might take him somewhere and try on a float vest thingy to see what the fit is like, failing that I'll have a look in Mothercare for some armbands as I can't think of any other shops that sell them?

We bought these for DS when we went on holiday when he was two, can't recommend them highly enough, they're absolutely fantastic, not cheap but certainly money well spent imo, he's 4 now and they're still going strong :)

We have been using the "swimfin" It is a fantastic piece of kit, that will last untill they are swimming, I wasted so much on arm bands, noodles, float vests, rubberrings. Both my boys think they are "jaws" with it on!

That's exactly what I meant by polystyrene rings - they use them for swimming lessons at our baths, and they do not restrict the elbow. They also can't be punctured :)

Any sports shop will sell armbands Shellsuit.

polyotters, or whatever the generic name for them is - not cheap, but a great way to keep them safe in the water - there's no way they can wriggle out of it if your attention is off them for even a second - which we all know can sometimes happen no matter how hard we try!

Not cheap, but you should be able to get some cheap second hand ones on ebay.;)
