Nectar card acceptance

Hi guys,

I am thinking of changing my M&S card for something else.. was looking at Capital One Cashback or yesterday I came across Nectar credit card (it is AMEX though-however I have Tesco as well, so limited acceptance wouldn't be an issue..).

I love the idea of free flights - I have Airmiles account but it takes while to accumulate and I always thought that 1 point for £10 spend on their card (or 1 for £50 on Mastercard!!!) is ridiculously low so I collect Airmiles on surveys etc and top up with Tesco vouchers if I need to use them... And living in Manchester I need 2000 points to get to zone 2 which is just ridiculous, even though being one of the main airports in the country but because it is not London you must use extra 500 points.

But Nectar now teamed up with Jet2 and it seems you pay normal prices (ie not inflated for Airmiles or limited availability), but with Nectar points - ie 1 point = 0.5p and you earn 1 point for spend virtually anywhere... So that sounds very good to me!!

But how tough is the scoring? I have never ever been declined for anything, but I already have quite high available limit... (not that I think that many banks give a damn as I have been accepted by Nationwide at the beginning of the year despite this fact, but I didn't take the card in the end. Though I would wait probably until June before applying for this one due to the application mark on my file).

  • I applied for this card 2 days ago and got approved in 60 secs (literally!).

Can't say how "harsh" they credit score but considering that I already had 2 searches on file in the last 3 months, have 2 credit cards opened in the last 1 year (most recent opened this Jan), I had my doubts...

How long have you had your M&S CC? Have you maintained it well throughout?
    Are you employed?
    Household income £30k and above?
Been at your address over 3 years?

A "yes" to all of the above should put you in good stead for this card.

Have you had a look at the AMEX site for full eligibility criteria?
