Barclaycard Direct Debit setup time

I recently applied for and received my Barclaycard and as with all my credit card applications requested a direct debit for payment. This was requested around the 18 feb, more than enough time I thought for the March 16 payment. But no, the payment was missed, a late payment charge was applied and now my credit has been reduced to £400! - Upon contacting Barclaycard, I was told that the DD takes between 6-7 weeks to setup!
It has never taken this long when I have setup previous DD's and 6 - 7 weeks seems rediculously long .. Barclaycard are looking into this but do any other banks apply this length of time for DD setup?

The general consensus is always assume the DD won't be taken, unless it explicitly says on the statement for that month that it will be taken by DD. Pay particular attention to
1) Your first statements until they do mention the DD
2) The statements after a change in the DD
Any indication that the DD is setup elsewhere (on online banking, letter through the post etc,) is insufficient to guarantee that the DD was set up in time for that statement and you should either ring up to confirm the method, or make the minimum payment by other means.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

This long set-up time is quite a common complaint and it's not limited to Barclaycard.
The recommendation is to read your statement carefully and make sure that it states that a payment will be taken by Direct Debit, or similar wording.
There is anectotal evidence that if you are polite and explain things calmly to the provider that there is a good chance that they will forgive you.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Sadly i had the same thing. I rang up and paid as soon as i was aware and was told there was no charge.
I log online the next week to see i had been hit with a fee and also the loss of my promotional rates so i rang up and said that was not what i had been told and managed to get the £12 fee taken off and my promotional rates reinstored.
Barclaycards customer service is not great but stick with it and you will end up getting the result sadly you will have a missed payment on your record thou0
