Peugeot 607 Diesel - fuel pump needs replacing - cost?
I have a 53 plate Peugeot 607 2.2HDi which I have been told has a leaking fuel pump (thought it was oil on drive). Looking online a recon pump is about £300 but I am trying to judge the labour costs.
Given this is a common failing does anyone know how long it takes and what the costs are likely to be?
I'm trying to avoid going to a Peugeot main dealer as they only fit new parts (much more) and charge top dollar so if anyone knows a garage near Stevenage that can do this sort of work let me know.

first up you will need the serial numbers off your pump, i do believe pug put different types of pumps in their cars so there could be a choice of two or even three pumps available for your model and year pug.
cheapest option would be to send it off for repair, leaving you with about 1-1 1/2 weeks downtime on the car depending on how fast repairer is.
to get the pump out is about 40mins there abouts putting it in is longer as you have to time up the pump. labour depends on that garage, some charge £35 per hour and some upto £50 per hour.0 -

Peugeot quote 4.6hrs (£75/hr plus VAT) to do the job. A diesel specialist quoted 6hrs (£60/hr plus VAT) time to do the job (looking in some industry guide book).
Both of these times are just to remove and refit the pump.
Tried several garages I know but none can to do the work and refered me to Peugeot although one suggested using a diesel specialist.
Looks like I'm going to be stuck with a large bill (£732-£950).IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

As you say its common on the PSA 2.2HDi...
If your half decent with spanners a Seal kit can be had for £17ish which will include most if not all the seals within the pump... Do the cambelt and water pump but dont worry about the chains connecting the 2 Camshafts unless already rattling or slack.
High pressure pump does not need timing up on the HDI..
Somewhere in Blackburn does the seal kits IRC. If I think on I'll try and find the details when I go into work later..0 -
Personally I would get the pump from eurocarparts and then get a local diesel specialist to fit it, I wouldn't use a Pug dealer.
I like the 607, always did, but never did feel confident in the 2.2 HDi engine to buy one, I believe they had a DPF and required Eloys Fluid top ups, just like the C5 with the 2.2 engine.
Pity as the 2.2 HDi was a great engine, smooth and powerful, just like the earlier 2.1, that was a lovely engine, but with the "hand grenade" reputation.0
