Bank Transfer help

About 18 months ago I transfered my main bank account over from First Direct (FD) to Nationwide (N) on one of these "we'll transfer your account without hassle deals". A few weeks later I transfered both my partners and my wage over to N. About 6 months went by and seemed was okay, we then had letters from FD saying we were about £1500 overdrawn. When I checked some of the Direct Debits I had asked Nationwide to transfer were still being taken from FD. A long story short N said they sent a BACS request over to FD requesting all DD account information (after seeking my permission). FD said they had done it and it was N's responsibility. spoke to N and the responsibility was not there's but guess whose. The end of all this I have had to agree to a short term loan with FD to pay off this money. I know the money has to be paid and I'm not contesting this, but should I have been to blame? Thanks to all

You can contest it with the bank and see if they will refund the interest and even give you some goodwill compensation, often this will happen if they mess up. The length of time it has taken you to notice will not do you any favours though.
However I think you need to take most of the responsibility yourself in failing to ensure that everything had been transferred over, particularly for so long. After all probably had easier access to how the transition was progressing than either bank. Another reason why you should always check your statements.0 -
Thanks Tom at aleast someone is alive out there?? It's the thing I detest most about Banks, they overpay you it's your fault for not reporting it. They underpay you it's your fault for not taking notice.Yellowlawn

The onus always has to be on the individual to make sure his bank account is running ok. You had 6 months to check that the DD's had transferred. Always keep an eye on your statements!0
