Many Questions about All Electric House and Heating

  • Hi All (again)

Right I've had a few days of 'suck it and see', I'd set up the energy monitor that I had ordered to see how much each option was costing.... Yesterday and the day before I had the main switch on (the one I'd never used), this heats the whole tank through the night (as you all said it would) and it stays hot right through until the late evening when I have my bath before bed.... Thursday's total electricity cost for everything £0.53 and Friday's £0.42 (This included 2 loads in the washing machine). I have also knocked the dryer on the head, normally I put my washing machine on to the dryer setting after a wash, now I have bought a clothes horse and just place it in front of the storage heater...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING!!!
If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x

If your routine includes the bath [ 35 gallon average ] per day routine I suggest you leave permanently on the the ' night rate ' water heating and rely on the cylinder insulation doing its job. You could super-lag by adding a~n~other cylinder insulation jacket but make sure you get on big enough, modern E7 tanks tend to be bigger than non E7.

Switching off / and on / etc on different days could well cost more than leaving it on cheap rate full time, with a subsequent reduction in immediate availability of instantaneous hot water.

    Hi purplegoldfish

We used to rent an electric flat and found if you have a shower rather than bath (there was no bath so we had no choice!) with one of those electric showers, you literally only need the hot water to be on for 30 minutes to give you plenty of hot water for general handwashing and cleaning purposes, at the night rate :)
