How long does it take Powergen to send a cheque for a credit balance after leaving?

This is a question on behalf of my mother who is a senior citizen. She recently changed her gas and electricity from Powergen to Atlantic. It has all gone through OK apart from she cannot get Powergen to send a final bill and a cheque for the credit balance that there was on her account. The changeover date was the beginning of October. One person on the telephone told her the cheque would be with her within 28 days and then another person last week said the cheque would be with her within 7 days. The 7 days have now gone past and still no cheque and I am about to get involved on her behalf.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of how long this takes with Powergen?

I changed from Powergen to Ebico a couple of months ago. I was on the 'dual fuel - online' plan with Powergen.
I gave my final meter reading to Ebico on the transfer date. Everything went through smoothly. I received a cheque for £30.40 which was the credit balance on my Powergen account 6 days later. I didn't even need to ask for it, it just arrived.
If she still hasn't got it by now - she shouldn't need to enquire about it! it's done automatically, I would phone them up and give them severe grief. It's her money and sh'e entitled to it.

As long as it takes you to sue them I guess. That should get their cogs moving.0

I was also on dual fuel on-line, my transfer went through on 4/11 and I've already had a bill for 1 day from Ebico but I've still not had my cheque, I just rang them up and the electric had been closed but not the gas, he confirmed they had both readings and offered to close it down there and then for me, lovely young man but why wasn't it shut down - the cynic in me suggests it was done purposefully!
Give them a ring and check!

Thanks for all the replies. I've rang Powergen and they have said they will send a final bill and cheque within a week. So fingers crossed. The cynic in me also thinks they hang on to customers money for as long as possible!0
