Prepayment or Direct Debit - Which is best?

Hello all,
We moved into our new house a month ago, and it has a prepayment electricity meter. We had never used one before, but we've gotten to quite like the convenience, and it's cheaper than what we were paying at our old property on DD.
Before we moved, I used an energy switching comparison site to set up a new account at our new house. We hadn't realised the house had a prepayment meter.
Now the question is - do we get on to Direct Debit payments or do we stick with prepayment? If we stick with prepayment, which energy company is best?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks all.

These days most PPM tariffs match the basic pay on bill credit tariffs for price.
There are 3 ways to pay and each one has pros and cons:
PPM - PAYG, most expensive, varies with consumption, No Pay No Fuel.
Pay on Bill - most expensive, varies with consumption, requires you to check readings used every quarter to avoid catch up bills.
Monthly DD - cheapest, fixed monthly amount, requires you to check readings used every quarter to avoid catch up bills.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

With direct debit / a credit meter you benefit from the option of cheaper tariffs and also the direct debit discount.0
