Neighbours started keeping Chickens

Hi,
My neighbour has started keeping chickens and their coup is right under my bedroom window. I am worried about the smell during the summer and the noise at night.

What rights do I have here, we are not in the country, we are in a large estate?

The noise will I think be the biggest problem. I visited a friend at the weekend who's neighbours were keeping chickens. They certainly didn't smell but they did squawk when laying an egg! Consider asking your neighbour to move them away from your bedroom? Seems reasonable to me.
    I love surprises!

here in powys, a couple kept a load of chickens and cockerels and the neighbour was fed up with all the noise thru the night. Environmental health got involved and recorded the noise and the couple ended up in court and had a hefty £4000 fine plus costs. was quite high profile, in all the papers and on wales news.

Chickens don't lay eggs at night so noise at night shouldn't be a problem. They do get up early in the summer but, as long as they don't have a cockerel, there shouldn't be too much noise.

If they're cleaned out often enough, there shouldn't be any smell.

It is a bit anti-social to put it under your window - I expect it's well away from their windows? Have a word with the neighbours about it. If they won't move it, be prepared to record any disturbance.

We keep chickens (live rurally). If there's no cockerel then you won't hear a peep out of them after dusk when they take themselves to bed.

The smell will only be an issue if they're not looked after and mucked out regularly. Any animal will start to smell if not kept properly.

That'll guarantee some noise at night.

Our neighbours have 3 chickens, they don't make much noise at all to be honest.

The bin men are more noisy around our house

i work for local council dealing with noise issues. We have loads of people in estates who have chickens . They dont have to be registered until they have a certain number. 50 i think but this may be incorrect off top of my head. We only get problems if for some reason they have a cockerel- some people think they have to have one for hens to lay- or if they are not cleaned properly which we deal with under nuisance
