I have just spoken to BG about switching online (after having used Uswitch) and it seems that the plan both Uswitch and the BG site offer me is "not available and cant be guaranteed" - its a £100+ year saving yet BG said theire site may be wrong.
Uswitch show the offer but say it can only be got via BG not other way
Surely this cant be right? If i go into Tesco and they advertise something at £9.99 they have to sell it at that.
Any ideas anyone?

  • You have to sign up to this deal as it is an "Online Tariff" the price is guaranteed to be atleast 6% less than BG Standard. What I think they mean is the price can change during the contract i.e a price Increase/Decrease.

The Websaver 11 tariff is not fixed it is variable.

    I work for BG.

    Couple of questions here.

First one is simply what is the plan that you're talking about?

Secondly, are they saying that the actual bill ammount cannot be guaranteed or that the price per unit can't? As the unit price is fixed, but any comparison saying that you'll use x many pounds is purely based on the ammount of energy that you use. It can't be guaranteed as if you use more gas and electric then the bill will be larger.

Basically, it's saying that you'll save £100+ IF you use the same ammount as you did last year. The saving can't be guaranteed though as if you use twice as much energy as you did last year then obviously the bill will be larger.

Are you sure this person wasn't just saying this in order to get you to sign up over the phone, thus hitting sales targets?
  • Don't mean to hijack your post, but is it the online energy saver 11? I've been having trouble with this too and am seriously considering cancelling and going elsewhere.

I was told on the phone by a customer service guy that i could sign up and get 15000 nectar points if i paid monthly direct debit - which i do anyway so no prbs there.

I gave all my details etc and hoped all i needed to do then is sort out my direct debit, but i recieved a letter today saying i have been put on their standard tarrif  ! I called this evening to be told that I have to be put on the standard tarrif first, and then when my customer number comes through (at some point in the furture) I can register for the online saver using the internet and the guy i spoke to shouldnt have said he could do it over the phone.

    Why make it simple eh.....

Gerrad would love to hear your thoughts on this one.
  • I think the person you signed up to the nectar deal has not told you accurate information.

The 10.000 Nectar points offer is only avaliable to Standard sign ups, However what some people on here reported you can do is sign up to standard and get some of the points then switch to Websaver 11. You can collect on going nectar points on any tariff. Online Saver 3 as it seems you are talking about you can sign up to at any point and you get bonus points for energysmart.

You would save more money just being on WS11 anyway as it's one of the cheapest deals at the moment.

I don't understand where you have got 15.000 Nectar points from however ?

    Cheers :p

    Hi,

Can I ask what the name of the plan was?

There are plans on uSwitch that we give a quote for but which we can't help you switch to (that might explain the 'not available' bit). I'm not sure what 'can't be guaranteed' means - I'd hazard a guess that whoever you spoke to meant that the plan isn't fixed price, so the rates could change if there was a price rise etc. The results on our site are accurate - we get our rates from the suppliers and we take into account discounts and your usage etc to give a a personalised quote.

If you let me know the plan name I'll look into it for you.

    Thanks

  • thanks for your reply gerard.

none of this has been made clear to me by either of the customer service reps i have spoke to. I have however, been told by both of them that I can get 15000 (not (10000) nectar points for signing up a monthly dd for dual fuel gas and elec on the websaver deal.

I really dont know how these companies get away with giving such carp information out. Really really annoys me - they're not doing me a favour supplying my energy.

    Sheesh.

ps no it's not energy saver - i have been trying to get on online tarriff all along.

It's from the 15000 Nectar points on sign up deal that they were running recently. You got 6000 points 15 days after the Supply Start Date and then 2250 each quarter for the rest of the year as long as you stay on the standard tariff.

It was only avaliable to people signing up to the standard tariff and paying by direct debt. If you're from the British Gas Edinburgh office then I immagine you wouldn't have heard of it as it was only avaliable to the offices dealing with billing customers and, as I understand it, Edinburgh is prepayment only.
