I admit I don't fully understand the OP's first post, but if BG missed an appointment they are in the wrong. If they didn't need to make a visit to the house then they wouldn't have allocated a time slot to visit.

This is correct, you can claim £20 as the 'emergency' engineer did not call out within the allocated timeband, on the day you had to take time off work.

'Switching the gas supply' I am presuming to mean exchanging a credit meter to a Pre-payment meter (or removing the meter altogether) by warrent due to non payment of bills?. If you have just moved into the property, then this would have been someone else's debt, and BG should have cancelled the warrent when you contacted them.

If however, the debt on the meter was yours, then BG were correct in the action they took, and you are not entitled to any further compensation, and it doesn't

Unless they switched off the gas due to maintainence on the gas pipes?
