Street Signs- the law!

Hi
Does anyone know if by law a road has to have a street (name) sign?
I moved in to a new house in 2004, the house fronts onto a bicycle path and originally had 3 street signs, all 3 signs have been removed (vandels!) and have not been replaced as the council have not adopted the road from Bellway homes (who own the site). I have contacted Bellway homes who say they wont replace the signs until they handover the site to the local council (7 years and counting). I have contacted the local councils who have also contacted Bellway but still no success.
thanks
Jeff

It's still a private road if the council have not adopted it yet."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I'd be really surprised if there was a law requiring there to be a sign if it's still legally counted as a private road. Having said that, it might be worth you contacting your local councellor if you can't get anywhere with Bellway or the local Council as they may be able to assist you in getting something sorted a little sooner than 7 years time. (If you can get Bellway to put it in writing that they won't replace them until the hand over in 7 years then you'll have proof this is what they've said too!).0

So ,from 2004 7 years ! But why 7 years + to adoption ? If a developer installs a road that is intended for adoption it is built to adoptable standards . When the Council agree that the road is finished to their satisfaction it goes onto 12 months maintenance at the end of which any residual defects are attended to then formal adoption takes place. How does this get stretched to beyond 7 years ?You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
