Equifax credit file nightmare

Hi all you wise folk out there,

I am having a nightmare with my Equifax credit file.

There are 4 RBS loan accounts registered to my file (but at an address at which I've never lived) with 3 out of the 4 defaulted.

There is also a Lowell Portfolio telecommunication debt also registered (another default).

These debts are from 2004-2008. They relate to someone with my name (but with an additional middle initial which I don't have) and a different date of birth.

How can I get these removed asap as they don't relate to me?

I have raised a case with Equifax, Lowell and RBS and they all say they are investigating but can't give me a deadline by which they have to report.

Someone has linked these addresses to my new one (where I have been since October 2010) but no one is admitting to it. Lowell have said they don't link addresses on Equifax but Equifax say they don't do it either

What can I do about this as this is damaging my credit file (as I have defaults registered that show up when a credit check is done)
Next have already removed my credit facility as this has just shown up in the last three weeks.

Any help, procedurally or with phone numbers would be very gratefully received

I would say your pretty well stuffed for a while yet - i have one satisfied default and can't get !!!!!!, if you did not take these out and the dob is different you may be in with a chance but that i am not sure - maybe people who moved into your last address after you somehow got your details.

There's nothing on my Experian file, which I find strange

Perhaps this latest pertinent fact could help others fathom the situation. Clearly you should not be in this position.

I have been asked to pay others debts. In my case the facts did not stack up and the beggars had no case and were trying it on to see if I was vulnerable to psychological pressure/bullying tactics.

Do you have all your previous addresses in your experian account ? are they all formatted correctly ?

Yes I have - and they are accurate. The only accurate ones in my Equifax ones are my current and my previous address, the one where the defaults are registered I have never lived at.

Also they have registered a default at my previous address which I knew nothing about which is the one which is causing all the hassle.

I want to know if I can claim compensation for these errors - they are causing me untold stress and time in trying to sort them out.

Why do you have to prove you are innocent first before they believe you - the person's date of birth is not even the same as mine and I was asked to provide ID to Equifax before they would let me access my file.

    Hiya..
The link was made probably by someone doing a debt recovery tracing search on 'you' and once that link is made the other creditors that were looking for your namesake followed. You need to contact all the lenders and provide proof of ID and possibly proof of addresses over the period of time that the credit facilities were opened - you say they are investigating - have they requested this information from you? Unfortunately, the onus is on you to prove your innocence so don't let it lie - once they have established your innocence they should remove the markers on your credit file - but you will have to allow some time for this as well, it's not a speedy process.

Well, I've sent both Lowell and RBS my Equifax files and evidence of ID, hopefully that should be enough.

What riles me is that I have an account with RBS so they know I'm not this person!

    Hi all

    Update

I sent Lowell and RBS my credit files and got a response back from Lowell within 2 days to say that it has been a mistrace and that they accept that the default doesn't belong to me. They advise that they do not update Equifax but only use Experian who apparently 'data share' which is why it has appeared on my Equifax file.
I have contacted Equifax with this information but they are adamant that they have to be notified by Lowell themselves even though they don't have dealings with them.

Further to this I have had to run around faxing RBS as they allegedly didn't receive my (recorded delivery) letter. They have said that they can't trace the account numbers that Equifax gave me and nor is the address that appears on the credit file linked on the Equifax feed they can see

Why is it that its easy to put on but a godawful nightmare to take off? Equifax are saying they have until 2 May to sort it out and will do it by then - makes me wonder what they've been doing until now as its still there with all 4 defaults in their glory still showing.

This has damaged my credit rating as Equifax haven't put my notice of disassociation or note of correction on my file - so it looks like I have 5 defaults which are linked to me and which both RBS and Lowell admit aren't me.

I know I haven't got any patience and that these things take time but my credit file is being trashed by the day and I can't seem to get it fixed

Does anyone have experience of getting compensation for this - after all not my mistake and an acknowledged mistake by others?

    thanks
