thanks so much for all the help so far. my mum has also got a loan of a loan shark type person who needs paying 30 a week ( horrible situation i know) my brother has agreed to pay this aswell as his rent so by the time he has paid this , rent and his bills (phone, bus passes to work) he wont have hardly anything to contribute. just feel really worried0

Look
Until you can get hold of the paperwork and see if any of these debts are covered by PPI, there really is nothing you can do.
Fortunately they are all step-dad's, so you can pay £1 per month if necessary, but if he has but does not claim on PPI, he loses the right to it. So you and little bro need to find the paperwork. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
is it likely that he has ppi on car finance?0

Quite possible.
You really do need to know if this is secured debt or not. And things like how long he has had the car, what the T&Cs are.
You need to have some idea of what sort of benefits mum will get, even if they take weeks to come through. So you need to get info on dear bro's income as wel as mum's.
And once you have some idea, you need to talk to the landlord.
Do mum and dad have joint or separate bank accounts? Do either of them have DDs coming out in the next week?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
no direct debits in next week- ok i will go round tonight and search for all relevant documents- my mum is crap at this sort of stuff so wont have a clue.0

Although you have had some very good help on here you need to post in the benefits section.
Regarding wtc you need to ring them back and tell them that there is a change of circumstances and give them the income as it is now assuming your Mum works enough hours to qualify.
It is very daunting when your nearest and dearest are suddenly taken seriously ill. Been there got the t shirt. She really needs to take her holidays when he is out of hospital not when he is in there.
Hope things pick up soon.0
