Hi all,
I don't use Aldi very often, but I was interested to know what people think of their salad and vegetable products. I usually spend about 80p for an iceberg lettuce and 49p for half a cucumber at Tesco, do you think that Aldi can top that? and if so, is the quality any good?
Thanks for any tips.

i find it very hard to get salad veggies at aldi, they never seem to have them
lydl are much better, here at least
their cucumbers are like homegrown ones, much nicer that you get from the supermarkets, and around 60p0 -
Every week I usually buy mini gem lettuce (2 in pack), a cucumber, mini corn on cob and tomatoes in Aldi and they are usually much cheaper than in Asda ot Tescos. Today I paid 39p for a whole cucmber. I have been buying most of our food in Aldi for the past 5 years and have never had a problem with quality or value for money.:D0

I've noticed that the vegetables in my local Aldi are not of the same standard as at Tesco, but I think I'll check out Lidl and see what they have to offer,
Thanks for the tip.0 -

That sounds like a real bargain, I usually end up spending about £1.00 on the little gems. I think it's worth me calling in on a regular basis, say once a week to see what's on offer.

I buy all my fruit, veg and salad stuff from Aldi, with three exceptions! I won't compromise on taste to save a little bit of money and always buy my potatoes, tomatoes and satsumas (or clementines) from Sainsbury's Taste the Difference range. Otherwise nearly everything else comes from Aldi - lettuce, cucumber, onions, peppers, mushrooms, apples, bananas, grapes (keep in fridge), pineapple, swede, carrot, sugarsnaps, mini corn, leeks, courgettes, cauli and broccoli. And it's all cheaper than it is at Sainsbury's, unless they happen to have one of the items on special offer!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Thanks for all of the great tips and advice everyone. I've just called into my local Aldi, and was pleasantly surprised at all of the bargains I came away with; cucumber, lettuce, leeks, sirloin steak (which wasn't on my list, but at £2.99, I couldn't walk away).
I'll still do my weekly shop at Tesco for my 'can't do without' branded items, but Aldi is a store I will be using on a regular basis.
PS - There was only one item that I was disappointed with, and that was the avocados, they were as hard as stones, you could have used them with a sling-shot as a lethal weapon.
Thanks again.0 -
I find both Aldi and Lidl fruit and veg to be quite good and usually cheaper than the big 4.0

I always make sure I buy the avocados (Aldi or Lidl) about a week in advance. A week sitting in the veg rack turns them into lovely smooth avocados that taste really quite nice. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
