What's The Best Fire/Burglar Alarm System

Following the collapse of SAS FIRE AND SECURITY and the imminent failure of the three replacement companies, members are interested in what the best value fire and burglar alarm systems are available.

A recent member, C Crawford, is a great exponent of the DAITEM alarm system. This wireless system is the one that was (allegedly) supplied by SAS and has had varied reviews by contributors to the SAS threads:-
I have got someone to research this for me and they state that the market is split into two categories:
  • Wired - these tend to be expensive at installation as they have to be connected with cable but are agreed to be secure and are used by the major worriers about security.
  • Wireless - these are cheap to install, as there are no wiring costs, but are prone to allegations of insecurity in that they can be overridden.
So, which Fire/Burglar alarm system is the best value and which actually is the best, regardless of cost?
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.

IMO I would always go for a wired system, however having said that I have had and used wireless systems as well.

There are numerous panels on the market from the basic ones, to ones that are all singing and dancing both wired and wireless.

It all depends on what kind of specification you as the customer want as to what kind of price you want pay for the system.

There are also the logistics of installation obviously wired systems there may be small chases to make and floorboards to lift to hide wiring so theres redecoration to consider.

If insurance required then NACOSS installer required.

As far as I remember when I originally looked up Daitem Alarms the model I have operates on 2 Frequencies and has protection against wireless attack. It can switch freqencies and also knows when someone it trying to overide it setting off the alarm.
If I have time later I will look for the manual that came with it and list the features.

Here is the info on the Technology behind the Alarms.
Espace Range - TechnologyResists attempts at sabotage

Sabotage-proof Based on lithium batteries, the system is entirely self-running. Because it is not connected to the mains power supply, it is not affected by power cuts. Because it is totally wire-free, there is no risk of sabotage.
    Tamper-proof

When one frequency or frequency band is temporarily occupied, the other makes sure the message gets to the receiver. If both frequencies or frequency bands are jammed, the system knows it is being tampered with and immediately gives the alert.
    No damage during installation

With no wiring required, system components can be positioned where they work best, fitting into your home without any damage to your interior design.TwinBand® : ultra-reliable dual band transmission

Communication between different system units is ensured by two entirely different
radio frequency bands (a 433 Mhz band and a 868 Mz band) providing simultaneous
transmission. If one of the frequency bands is temporarily unavailable, the other radio frequency band takes over transmission.

TwinPower® : doubly secure optimised power supply

The control panel is powered by a lithium battery pack made up of 2 separate batteries. This provides :
    - an optimised power supply according to operating mode (self-monitoring or alarms armed),
    - should one of the batteries fail, the other takes over (series or parallel operation possible for both batteries).
Each battery has twin gold-plated contacts.
The battery pack is simply clipped into place. The batteries last 5 years in normal conditions of use (see conditions for use on the control panel product data sheet).

WS.I.T.E. NVM stick (Site Identification Terminal Equipment)

The entire system configuration is saved on a removable non-volatile memory card built
    into the control panel.
    The S.I.T.E. NVM stick contains:
    - device programming,
    - control panel configuration,
    - recording of personalised voice messages,
    - events log (last 500 date and time-stamped events).
