Hi all,
I've always had problems with npower in the past but things have just stepped up a notch as my electricity statement has popped up at £1400, based on actual/estimated readings. Several readings have been made over the two years or so I've been with them and they have visited the property to take readings themselves. In October 2010 I was £50 in credit and paying £30 a month - all reading were 'actual'. npower are sending someone out to photograph the meters soon apparently. One of the meter numbers seems to have changed since the previous statement too - both used to begin 'S6...' but one has changed to 'D0...'
Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm not very experienced with electricity bills and they generally confuse the hell out of me, but being owed £50 to owing £1400 within six months seems crazy!
Any help would be really appreciated!

The only suggestion I have is for you both to read your meters regularly. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

It's almost impossible to help given the information you have provided so far.
Let's try and unnravel it by asking a few questions,to which others may also chip in.
1.When was the last firm reading and what was it?
2.What other firm readings do you have ,dates and reading?
3.What is the latest reading on the bill? Actual or estimate? What was the date? What is your current reading?
4. What tariff are you on?
5.Has there been any tariff change?
6. Have you always paid the £30 per month? If not, what other payments have you made and from when?
7. Have Npower explained the increase? What did they say?
8.When did you join Npower? Were there any arrears?
Try posting these details and we/ I should be able to give you some further advice.0 -
I would also add that you need to check the serial numbers on the meters.. The way i have read your post i'm thinking you have two meters and therefore on economy 7 (or some other cheap night time rate).. have the readings for each meter been accidentally switched?? its easily done.
check the reads against the serial numbers?? have they got the correct meters??0 -
I think since the meter number has changed on the new bill there must be a mix-up, since the dates on the summary match up with those shown on a previous statement yet they appear to be from different meters. We seem to have three meters for our flat which has always been a bit confusing - a small digital box, one with a needle/face and one which just shows the numbers (that I'm most familiar with - red number on the end). Any ideas why there might be 3? I realise this is quite a daft question but since nobody has ever explained any of this to me and I don't have anyone to ask the internet becomes my friend! Ta0

either 2 meter serial numbers, or they suspect you of having a sub meter.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

the one with the needle face can trip anyone up when reading them.. get it wrong and you could owe thousands... has the 3rd one got a serial number?? does it appear anywhere on your bill?? there might be 3 if its an old building thats been converted.. it may be an old 3 phase, does the reading ever change???
could be a sub meter..or anotherflats meter...0 -
OP you probably have a day rate meter a night rate meter and a radio teleswitch, do you have storage heaters? That gum you like is coming back in style.0
