plastering a brick fireplace

Hi

First time posting on this board. I have a brick fireplace in my living room, rather than remove like the OH wants i suggested we could plaster instead. But the fireplace is bare hand made brick, i tried other forums but have not come up with any advice i can use.

Is it possible to plaster this fireplace?

Yes, but most would dry line it.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Piece if piddle..

Wash the brickwork down with a dilute pva / water mix as a bonding coat, then I would trowel on a cement render, let that go off another pva bonding wash and then skim over with plaster.

However much easier and less messy to dry line the chimney breast with plaster board and then skim that.
