Starting a family in a one bedroom flat

Okay, well you seemed to have given the matter some thought;) Good luck with it all:beer: But I really hope for your sakes that you are not having more than one baby! We've wanted children for a number of years but I've always stalled because of finances and space.
Finances is now not a problem. I've worked out that we survive on a reduced salary for a year whilst I'm on maternity, we can afford childcare for when I do go back to work, we can afford to buy all the start up stuff (cot, pushchair etc) and we'll be able to afford things once the babies arrives (nappies, formula, clothes etc).
So finances are now not a problem. Just the space which we've worked out wont be a huge issue on a temporary basis.
We've just rearranged our bedroom furniture and we now have space for a cot. We're going to fill this space with our x-trainer (that's been living in my parents garage) for the time being but at least we now know that we can get a cot in the bedroom easily for when the time comes.0 -

As I'm sure most people do to a certain extent.
I guess as with anyone else you can only plan so much otherwise people wouldn't have children full stop.0 -

Well I have yet to see a charity shop in my area selling a second hand crib or cot, and I live in an area where there are several charity shops.
I researched exactly what I wanted before buying a cot, and for me I would rather buy a brand new cot and have the features which I wanted eg. dropside, adjustable and with teething rails, rather than buy off Ebay where I am not sure exactly what I am buying. £100 is not a lot to spend on a cot, they can cost a lot more than this.I got a Mamas and Papas crib from the Sue Ryder shop for £10. I've recently given it back to them, and they were most pleased because it's still in great condition. Short of that, ebay has hundreds of cots...0 -
VroomBroom, i couldnt help but notice you were due on the 20th, has anything happened yet?
Good luck if your still waiting!0 -
Babies don't need a lot of stuff or a lot of space. There are hundreds of products out there that the manufacturers will tell you are essential, but they aren't. You'll be fine - just don't let people get carried away with presents. You could ask for vouchers instead and use them as and when you need larger clothes etc. Or ask them to put money on a supermarket savings card so you can use it for nappies etc as you go.
I'd just reconsider the highchair. I had a folding one that took up no space when not in use but was so useful - not just for mealtimes. Babe can sit in it and play for the odd ten minutes or so when you are cooking/washing up etc and need to know they are safe (I hate playpens anyway but the do take up a lot of space) and can be in the kitchen with you with no danger. I know a lot of people use the car seats for babies to sit in, but I liked having him up higher more at my level so we could chat and stuff at the same time, and of course there's a nice big tray for their toys.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
