Mailshot – franking machines alternative?

I am just starting a small mailshot campaign and estimate I will send less than five thousand letters per year. All of these letters will be second class small letters. I have looked into franking machines, but with rental, inks etc the saving costs are negligible. Also if I send much less than 5 thousand letters a year I could even be looking at a loss.
In light of this I wondered if anyone was aware of any cheaper alternatives to standard second class stamps? Are there no companies who will frank your mail for you and pass on a percentage of the cost savings associated with royal mail franked mail prices?

I think you can make arrangements with the royal mail to print stamps - not sure what they call it to be honest but it is something that can be done on line.
Depending on what you are sending would it not be better to email it using something like mailchimp?0 -
Welcome to the boards Helen.
If you can get to a branch of CostCo, they sell stamps at slightly under cost price. Superdrug also have occasional offers.
What you need to google is Direct Mail companies. There are lots. Never having used one, I can't say how good there are. Let's just say that if a letter arrives with an actual postage stamp on it, the chances of it being read are slightly higher than if it's obviously a commercial mailshot - and i suspect some of those companies would send out mail which screamed 'junk mail' to me.Signature removed for peace of mind0
